Addingham Allotments & Gardens Association

Annual Show report 15th August 2009

Despite the rather inclement weather on Saturday 15th August, Addingham Allotments & Gardens Association Annual Show was a very successful event. There were 445 entries on show from 68 keen exhibitors, but unfortunately only 6 children’s entries of which 4 were for potatoes grown in a bucket, still lets hope for more entries from them next year. It seemed to a very good year for vegetables all of which looked fresh and well presented. There was an excellent display of flowers from the humble pansy to breathtaking Dahlias and Sweet Peas, including flowering and foliage pot plants. In the floral art section were some stunning and imaginative displays including displays in an unusual  container. The home craft classes were very well subscribed with tasty looking jams, cakes and bread together with excellent cross stitch and tapestry examples and other crafts.

Judging of the exhibits were as follows Vegetables Mr Peter Smith from Silsden, Flowers Mr Eric and Robert Nelson of Storiths, Mrs Ruth Brown from Middleton oversaw the Floral Art, Mrs Gill Holmes from Halton East had the mouth watering task of judging the Homecraft last but not least Mrs Hilary Walsh from the village was the judge for the children’s entries. But throughout the season the allotment sites had been judged by the Associations President Mr Donald Smith.

You may notice in the results, winners of some vegetables under the name of ‘Band Oyle’ this is the old building recently renovated by Mr Peter Hindle and Mr Doug Tetley who grew the vegetables around the property. The prizes were presented by Mr Peter Marshall OBE who was a previous President of the Association and Parish Council awards, Best Main Street frontage and Best Kept Garden, by the Chairman of the Council

When the event was open to the public in the afternoon about 200 people came to view the displays and partake of refreshments.
